I'm looking for 2-3 folks willing to make 2012 The Year They Learned the Shell!
Here's the idea: If you agree to participate and are selected, you'll be asked to sign a participation agreement. You'll agree to buy a copy of Learn Windows PowerShell in a Month of Lunches from me, at a discounted price, along with the companion DVD. You'll agree to set aside one hour or so, every weekday for a month, to read a chapter and watch the chapter's companion videos - and do the hands-on exercises provided. Each day, you'll also agree to write up a brief summary of what you learned that day - only about 500 words or so. Include any questions you have lingering from the day's materials, something you're excited about, a cool new trick you learned that day, etc. You'll send those to me, and they'll get posted right here.
The idea is to document a couple of folks' journey through learning PowerShell, so that the public can get an idea of what the process is like.
As a bonus, if you fulfill all of your obligations (especially sending those articles in a timely fashion every day), you'll get a full refund for the book and DVD, including a refund of your shipping charges.
As a double bonus, the 2-3 participants selected will also have an opportunity to get a couple of GoToMeeting-based follow-up classes with me once you've made it all the way through the book. That'll be a chance for you to ask questions, firm up your understanding of tricky bits, and let me know where you plan to go next with your shell exploration and learning.
I'd like to do this in the month of March, meaning you'll start March 1st. If you're interested, you must reply by January 25th. If you're selected, you must order your book and DVD by February 10th (we won't be fulfilling shipments between Jan 20 and Feb 4 due to travel). This offer is only open to residents of the US. Sorry; costs and import rules don't allow me to offer the freebie to residents of other countries. If you'd like to participate and not get the refund at the end, you're welcome to.
I've set up a special e-mail address for applications; expect to hear back from me (if you're selected) between Jan 25 and 30. It's "contech" at "ymail" dot com. Let me know if you're interested, tell me that you're okay with the obligations I've outlined above, and a bit about yourself and what you do in the IT world. This is an audition; since you'll be responsible for those 500-ish-word articles five times a week, I'll be looking for folks who can write concisely and clearly. You'll be asked to sign a very brief participation agreement that will simply re-iterate what I've written here.
I can't wait to hear from you!
